Situated just a stone’s throw away from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, LMK offers a myriad of ways to connect with like-minded individuals, from instant chats to group conversations in Audio Rooms and the classic swipe-right feature.

As you navigate through the app and curate your authentic identity on the community feed, it’s crucial to be aware of recent legal developments. LMK has faced legal repercussions, resulting in its recent ban from Snapchat due to a lawsuit filed by a grieving mother in May 2021. The tragic case involves a teenage son who, after enduring cyberbullying on this app and Yolo, took his own life. In response to these serious allegations, LMK’s integration with Snapchat has been suspended.

Despite these challenges, LMK remains welcoming to everyone above the age of 13.

LMK Verdict

It appears that the age restriction policy for LMK, initially designed for users aged 13 and above, may not be effectively monitored, given the increasing number of adults on the platform. Personally,I haven’t personally encountered or matched with any 13-year-olds.

After facing a lawsuit, LMK was banned from Snapchat, with features like audio rooms and instant chats, which are now giving a more mature vibe, making it less likely to attract a younger audience. However, user participation remains relatively low, with some rooms having only two participants and the largest gatherings reaching around 10 people. In comparison to other chat platforms boasting 100+ participants, LMK seems to have fewer users following its Snapchat ban.

On a personal note, I haven’t received any anonymous contacts, suggesting that this feature may not be highly active.

The swiping match function, requiring users to add photos, eliminates the anonymity aspect. Once a match is made, initiating a chat with the other person appears to connect users with genuine individuals. Spending time swapping and chatting would provide an opportunity to make new friends as it advertised.

How to Join LMK

LMK is only available as an app version, so people need to go to an app store to download their app.

By tapping the Get sign and using the personal password, the app is available from app stores.

There would be some basic questions regarding the setting.

There are some different ways to sign up to this service: phone number, Apple ID and Facebook. It is interesting to see there is still a sign for Snapchat, since they are reported to be banned from the service.

Now, people need to agree with the T&C.

Now, people would move on to create a profile.

There would be a series of basic questions.

Now, it is time to create an avatar.

Now, people need to select their interests, this would be used by the algorithm to match users.

It is obvious but more information would result in more accurate matches.

Now, people need to put their age, this can be important since people can not change this!!

This initial photo section can be skipped, since all profiles have avatars, and people can stay anonymous.

People can be connected to people you know by allowing the app to sync with contact.

Now the algorithm would suggest some others to follow. People can skip this by tapping the sign at the bottom.

More agreement to be nice to others.

How to use LMK

There are a lot of things people can do using LMK.

Instant Chat functions would match people by their mutual interests. It does connect to others.

The instant voice call function would work the same, there is a 3 min limit but people would be matched by mutual interest first.

Audio Rooms are places where people can join groups of people and meet them.

People can join any ongoing Audio rooms, when people enter, they can hear others talking. You can drop lines on the chat to participate, or send them virtual gifts.

In the audio rooms, people are really just talking about random topics, it is a very strange place, since it’s only voice, it is like a radio, but hosted by normal people.

This Swip section would work as an ordinary dating site, you swipe right to like and love to dislike. Is it appropriate for 13 years old to do this?

In order to use this function, people need to add some photos. Without them, it would not work.

When the like is mutual, they would show you this and suggest getting in touch.

This is a feed page, this works on other social networking sites, people just post their random pictures and so on. Others would like them or post some comments.

Chat section works as a message / chat function.

LMK Premium Service comes with many features. The main feature would be that by signing up for the service, people can see who liked your profile.

The price would be varied depending on the length of the package. Longer would be cheaper.

People can also buy Gems, they are used for gifts to other users, also people can use it to boost their profiles.

How to delete an amount on LMK

From the profile icon at the bottom, people can go to their profiles.

On the profile page, at the right top corner, people can access the setting.

Scrolling down to the bottom, people can find a “deleting account” sign.

They offer some alternatives and ask for a reason for the departure.

You need to give some feedback.

One more last push to stay.

This is the last thing to tap before completing the delete.

This article states that LMK (Let’s Make Friends)are facing legal action in the United States District Court for the Central District of California initiated by Kristin Bride, an Oregon mother.

The lawsuit stems from the tragic suicide of her 16-year-old son, Carson Bride, in 2020, allegedly as a result of enduring months of abusive messages through the aforementioned apps: Yolo (You Only Live Once) and LMK (Let’s Make Friends).

The legal complaint contends that these apps violated consumer protection laws and failed to uphold terms and conditions that pledged zero tolerance for bullying or harassment. Eisenberg & Baum, the law firm representing Bride, withdrew its complaint against Snap after the disappearing message app blocked Yolo and LMK in March 2022.

Despite attempts to seek comments, Yolo and LMK did not respond.
